2024-11-14 AWS Timothy Patterson

Welcome to the start of an exciting journey 🚀, where I dive into the AWS Marketplace! Whether you’re a Startup, SMB, Enterprise, Solution Integrator, or Independent Software Vendor (ISV), the AWS Marketplace offers a treasure trove of tools and services designed to help you scale, innovate, and manage software and data procurement, provisioning, and governance in the cloud.

In this series, I’ll explore how each persona can unlock the full potential of the AWS Marketplace—from discovering ready-to-deploy software solutions to simplifying procurement and streamlining management tasks. But first, let’s set the stage with an overview of what AWS Marketplace is and why it’s valuable for your specific needs.

What is AWS Marketplace? đź›’

AWS Marketplace is a curated digital catalog featuring thousands of software listings from independent software vendors (ISVs). It allows customers to find, buy, deploy, and manage third-party software and services to build solutions quickly. It’s not just for software developers either; if you’re looking for services like consulting, data migration, or cloud security, the AWS Marketplace has you covered!

What’s in It for You?

Now, depending on who you are, the AWS Marketplace offers different types of value:

  • Startups & SMBs 🏗️: The marketplace offers cost-effective, ready-to-use software, saving you the hassle of building everything from scratch. Plus, you can scale as you grow.
  • Enterprise Customers 🏢: The Marketplace simplifies procurement, compliance, and governance, while also offering a range of public and private offers.
  • Solutions Integrators 🔧: You’ll find an array of solutions to integrate into your customer projects, along with exclusive Marketplace features to help you better manage your engagements.
  • ISVs 📦: If you’re looking to sell your software, AWS Marketplace is a valuable sales channel, enabling you to reach a global customer base.

What Types of Offerings Can You Find? 🔍

From software solutions (like SaaS, AMIs, and containers) to professional services (like consulting and managed services), the AWS Marketplace offers a wide range of options. You can find solutions that align with your needs, whether it’s analytics, AI/ML, security, DevOps, or anything in between.

Getting Registered and Making a Purchase đź’ł

If you’re a customer, making a purchase is as easy as a few clicks. You can either self-subscribe directly from the AWS Marketplace catalog, or work directly with the ISV and/or a trusted reseller or consulting partner to negotiate custom terms and pricing via an AWS Marketplace Private Offer. You can maintain your direct relationships with the ISV and consulting partner, while also transacting via AWS Marketplace. If you’re an ISV looking to sell, the registration process is streamlined. You’ll also want to understand the Foundational Technical Review (FTR) process if you’re listing a SaaS product—more on that in a future post!

Meanwhile, you can learn more about the FTR process here: AWS Foundational Technical Review .

AWS Marketplace provides productivity benefits to customers by making it easy for them to search, select, evaluate and procure software they need for their business, and business benefits for ISVs by providing them access to a wider customer base.
